Now that we covered the big picture of building an authority website, let’s go into more details. This 12-step process outlines everything you need to know to make your own website successful.
I created this course with only one purpose in mind. To help you defeat information overload.
There are literally millions of books and resources about internet marketing, SEO, copywriting and so on... You can easily waste your whole life studying them before you get anything done.
Truth is, that’s why 99% of all people fail to make money online. They drown in information overload and give up because of feeling overwhelmed. And that’s exactly where I want to help you!
If you read this course, I guarantee you’ll know EVERYTHING you could possibly need to build a successful website.
Even if you’re a complete newbie and have never heard of internet marketing before, this single course will teach you 80% of what’s important. Now you can turn the tables on the gurus and beat them at their own game!
Finally you can stop researching and start building. So without further ado, let’s get started! Here’s what you will learn:
Step 0 – Do NOT Register Your Domain Name
I know it’s very tempting to rush this step, but please slow down. Though every guru suggests you register a domain name as the first step to create your own website, most of the time they just want to get a commission on your sale.
However, I want you to avoid this mistake. So please do NOT register your domain name until you know exactly what your site will be about.
Step 1 – Choose a Niche for Your Website
What is a niche in the first place? In short, a niche is a smaller part of a larger market.
Let’s take soccer as an example. You can’t just create a site about soccer. That would be impossible for a one-(wo)man show. The competition would simply crush you.
However, you can create a site about a smaller part of soccer. How about soccer shoes, for example? Or soccer training? Or soccer teams in San Diego? As you can see, these themes are all related to soccer, but they are much smaller.
These sub-themes of a larger market are called niches or niche markets.
Step 2 – Determine Your Niche’s Profitability
It’s not enough to just pick a niche and create a site about it. What if there isn’t any demand for it? Unless you want to build a hobby site, you must make sure your niche has enough profit potential.
Step 3 – Research Your Niche’s Keywords
Definition: Keywords and key phrases are what people use in the search engines to find information. For example, if you’re looking for information about building your own website,
you type in „create your own website” (without the quotation marks) into Google. In this example create your own website is the keyword phrase.
As you know, the key to any successful online business is traffic. You don’t have a business if you don’t have any visitors.
So how can you get traffic? How can you build a successful online business?
You must find out what people type into search engines to research your niche.
Step 4 – Create a Content Blueprint for Your Website
Once you have enough keywords, you must organize them into logical „chucks”. You must create a behind-the-scenes “structure” for your site.
Building the right website structure makes it easy for your readers to consume your content.
Also, it makes it easier for the search engines to analyze your website and send you more traffic.
Step 5 – Determine Your Unique Selling Proposition
What is a unique selling proposition (USP) and why is it important?
A unique selling proposition sets you apart from the competition. It makes you stand out from the crowd. It makes people want to do business with you instead of choosing other sites in your niche.
You can’t just create a „me-too” site about your topic. You must provide something original and unique. In order to become successful online, you must come up with your own USP.
Step 6 – Learn How to Write Great Content
You must learn about preselling before you write your first page of content. In case you didn’t know, creating great content is where most people fail. Either they get
stuck thinking they can’t write OR they produce some content, but it’s terrible. Truth is, however, it’s fairly easy to write great copy. You don’t have to be Hemingway to do so. All you need to do is provide valuable information to your audience in an easy-tounderstand way.
Step 7 – Find a Good Domain Name
Once you’ve choose a niche, made sure it’s profitable, researched enough keywords, came up with your USP and mastered the art of e-writing, it’s time to register your domain name.
Now that you know what you'll create your own website about, you’ll find it a lot easier to decide on the perfect URL . As you can see, it would have been a shame to do it in the first step, when you knew nothing about your plans at all. Although there are still many pitfalls you have to avoid, have no fear!
Step 8 – Choose a Site Builder Program
Once you registered your domain name, you have to start building your website. In order to do so, you can either
- learn HTML, CSS and other programming languages
OR
- use a site-building platform.
- Site builders can save you a TON of time. Also, they make it possible for even technically not skilled people to build professional websites.
The most popular website building platforms are WordPress, Drupal and Joomla. Personally, I use Site Build It! to save even more time and money.
Step 9 – Optimize Your Website for Search Engines
Now it’s time to learn how to optimize your website for the SEO so that you receive a lot of targeted traffic.
Step 10 – Publish Your Own Newsletter
Publishing a newsletter (or eZine) for your visitors is vital. 99% of internet marketers offer one to their visitors. Also, it's one of the most fun parts of creating your own website.
It’s a great way to stay in touch and build relationships with your audience. The more you interact with them and the more repeat exposures you have, the more likely they’ll buy your products or services in the future.
Step 11 – Monetize Your Website
The last step to create your own website is the best part for most people. It’s certainly the most rewarding.
Once you have many satisfied visitors ready to heed your recommendations, all you have to do is put up some monetization models on your site and watch the money roll in. Or so the legend goes...
Step 12 – Become and Stay Productive
Productivity is not merely self-help BS and it's definitely not a game.
Increasing your productivity by 100-200% is literally like cloning yourself! So take it very seriously! Your productivity can be your best friend or worst enemy! And you need all your resources to create your own website.
